1948: Ana Mendieta is born in Havana, Cuba
1961: Ana and her sister Racquel exiled to the U.S.

1967: Starts attending University of Iowa
1971: Naturalized as U.S. citizen

- travels to Mexico for the first time

1979: Reunited with father in U.S.
1980: First return trip to Cuba
1985: Marries sculptor Carl Andre
- moves to New York City

Mendieta died on September 8th in a fall from her 34th floor apartment.
